Visit all far places of Crete with one hire car: Crete, among Greek islands, is the island with the most far directions. It's terrain is covered with mountainous and forest parts of the land, making transportation very difficult and distaances very long. Recommended far placs to drive, based from Chania and Heraklion airport ; Chania airport: Paleochora village is in the southern part of Chania region. You can drive there in 1hour and 30minutes, it's driving direction is very attractive as all villages you drive are worth to visit. Generally the place of Koudouras, west of Paleochora, is characterised as one of the most beautiful surroundings of Crete. Palecohora is a great base for local boats and ferries sailing along the south coast to Sougia, gia Roumeli, Loutro and Chora Sfakion, Gavdos island is a main destination on scheduled bassis too. Kastelli of Kissamos is a unique destination, 1hour and 35minutes far from Chania airport. It is located in the western part of Crete island and is chosen to be the start point of many travellers seeking to camping and nature vacations. It is close to Balos Lagoon, Falassarna beach, Gramvousa Bay. A hire car is not allowed to drive oon the rough land road of Ballos and Gramvousa bay, a jeep type car is required to do so. Samaria Gorge is the most visited place of Chania region. It is one of the 5 gorges in this region. Next to Tripiti Gorge, Klados Gorge, Eligia Gorge, is the most beautiful and vissitable one. It's length is 16km and is ending to Agia Roumeli port village. There thousands of people who loved this walking direction. Vamos area is the most populated area of last 20years, it's dramatic building and reconstraction of old buildings, brought people back to their beautiful villages, it is the Britis territory, in comparison to other local people. I love this place as it is still beautiful, despite it is new rebuilt.
